Estimate capabilities of on-site IT department and select application packages based upon local capabilities. Project data archiving needs and backup software and power backup needs. Does the server already exist? What's the network operating system (NetWare, Windows, Linux, Mac/OS)? Is the wiring infrastructure already in place? Do all the computers have network cards? Do you need services other than file & printer sharing set up, such as e-mail, proxy, database? Do the computers need to have applications loaded on them? Painting with a *very* broad brush, a competent network technician, setting the network up right, will take 5-10 hours to set up the server, and 1-1.5 hours per PC for setup & testing. Rates for network installs can run from $45-$125 per hour. As asked, this is a pretty open-ended question, and as such very hard to answer.
